Slalom launches global InnerSource platform designed to bring reusability to clients

The Showcase was officially launched by Slalom’s global engineering teams to support the company’s engineering community. The new InnerSource platform is designed for the exchange of reusable assets that each of Slalom’s 43 markets can leverage with clients.

Seattle, WA—July 21, 2022—Slalom, a global consulting firm focused on strategy, technology, and business transformation, has launched a new capability within its global engineering organization: the Showcase. The Showcase is an InnerSource platform that acts as a centralized hub for Slalom’s entire engineering community to share best practices, lessons learned, and reusable code in areas such as serverless development and business intelligence. While the Showcase is designed to be used by Slalom’s consultants, Slalom’s leaders predict major end benefits for clients.

“Repeatable approaches and reusable assets allow us to deliver initiatives better and faster with our clients,” said Dave Cutler, global general manager of Slalom’s cloud business. “While no two client problems are the same, many of our clients have common challenges that can be addressed effectively in repeatable ways.”

How the Showcase works

Slalom’s engineers, industry leaders, partner teams, and client delivery teams can all participate in the Showcase through an InnerSource model. Code and delivery assets are organized in a common platform accessible by all. Feedback and contributions are reviewed by Slalom’s engineering leaders, who ensure that quality is maintained across assets and the vision for each asset is clear.

“Slalom has some of the best engineers in the industry with truly innovative ideas grounded in our experience with clients,” said Mike Cowden, executive president of global technology at Slalom. “We wanted to create a platform that allowed them to publish their work with global visibility.”

The key intended outcomes of the Showcase include enabling Slalom’s clients to:

  • Deliver initiatives faster and better — Each of Slalom’s clients has problems and challenges unique to them as well as problems shared by others. Slalom engineers can solve common problems more quickly and effectively with the Showcase.

  • Fuel innovation — The more time and effort spent on common and repeatable engineering work takes time and budget away from what Slalom’s clients truly need—innovative engineering.

  • Embrace emerging technology — Slalom has some of the best, most passionate engineers in the industry. The Showcase gives them the ability to experiment and create with new and emerging technology that we can then bring directly to our clients.
